1 Scope This standard specifies the technical requirements and management regulations for the design, construction and use of gamma irradiation facilities. This standard is applicable to gamma irradiation facilities for cobalt-60 source, cesium-137 source and other radioactive sources. For accelerator irradiation facilities, reference may be made to this standard. 2 Normative references The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this standard, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated references, subsequent amendments (excluding corrections), or revisions, of any of these publications do not apply to this standard. However, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document applies. GB/T 1804-2000 General tolerances-Tolerances for linear and angular dimensions without individual tolerance indications GB 3095 Ambient air quality standard GB 7465 High activity cobalt-60 sealed radioactive sources GB 18871-2002 Basic standards for protection against ionizing radiation and for the safety of radiation sources GBZ 2 Occupational exposure limit for hazardous agents in the workplace JJG 591 γ-ray radiation source (for radiation processing) 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 ionizing radiation radiation consisting of charged particles and/or uncharged particles capable of generating ionization which may be generated in primary or secondary process 3.2 sealed radioactive source solid-state radioactive substances sealed in cladding or solidified in covering layer, whose cladding or covering layer shall be of adequate strength so that the sources may maintain sealing property without radioactive leak under the designed operating conditions and abrasion conditions as well as predicted incident conditions 3.3
