Foreword Codeofchina.com is in charge of this English translation. In case of any doubt about the English translation, the Chinese original shall be considered authoritative. This document is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents. This document is the fifth part of GB/T 10357 Test of mechanical properties of furniture. The following parts of GB/T 10357 have been issued: ——Part 1: Strength and durability of tables; ——Part 2: Stability of chairs and stools; ——Part 3: Strength and durability of chairs and stools; ——Part 4: Stability of storage units; ——Part 5: Strength and durability of storage units; ——Part 6: Strength and durability of beds; ——Part 7: Stability of tables; ——Part 8: Stability of chairs with tilting or reclining mechanisms when fully reclined, and rocking chairs. This document replaces GB/T 10357.5-2011 Test of mechanical properties of furniture - Part 5: Strength and durability of storage units. In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the following main technical changes have been made with respect to GB/T 10357.5-2011: ——The "Scope" is changed (see Clause 1 hereof; Clause 1 of Edition 2011); Introduction GB/T 10357 aims to describe test methods for the mechanical properties of furniture. Due to the different functional requirements of different types of furniture such as storage units, chairs and stools, tables, and beds, their mechanical property requirements are also different. It is proposed to be composed of the following eight parts: ——Part 1: Strength and durability of tables; ——Part 2: Stability of chairs and stools; ——Part 3: Strength and durability of chairs and stools; ——Part 4: Stability of storage units; ——Part 5: Strength and durability of storage units; ——Part 6: Strength and durability of beds; ——Part 7: Stability of tables; ——Part 8: Stability of chairs with tilting or reclining mechanisms when fully reclined, and rocking chairs. This document is the fifth part of GB/T 10357, which describes the test methods of strength and durability of storage units, provides technical support for improving the strength and durability of storage units, standardizing the furniture market order, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. Test of mechanical properties of furniture - Part 5: Strength and durability of storage units 1 Scope This document describes the test method for strength and durability of storage units. This document is applicable to fully assembled and deliverable storage with storage functions, including its movable and non-movable components. 2 Normative references The following documents contain requirements which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies. ISO 48-5: 2018 Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic - Determination of hardness - Part 5: Indentation hardness by IRHD pocket meter method 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 adjustable friction stay component (3.6) that can hold the opening or flap-up door (3.12) in multiple open positions without any assistance 3.2 built-in stops device for limiting the movement of push-pull members (3.11) or door opening 3.3 catch device device that can be opened without additional action to hold a component (3.6) in a certain position Example: Magnetic door catch or buffer door closer. 3.4 clear height unobstructed height above the upper surface of the bottom of the product Example: The distance between the bottom upper surface of the lower push-pull member and the lower edge of the upper push-pull member; the distance between the bottom upper surface of the upper push-pull member and the lower edge of the structural unit (see Figure 1). 4 General test conditions 4.1 Pre-conditioning The product to be tested shall be a finished product that is well assembled and deliverable. Products and their components shall be assembled and/or configured according to the instructions provided. Unless otherwise stated, the test shall be carried out in the form most unfavorable to mechanical properties (see 3.7). If assembly or configuration instructions are not provided, the assembly methods shall be recorded in the test report. Fittings shall be tightened prior to the test and shall not be tightened again during the test unless otherwise specified in the manufacturer's instructions. If a change in product form (see 3.7) is required to simulate the worst-case scenario (see 3.25), it shall be recorded in the test report. Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, the specimens shall be stored in indoor environment for at least 24h without load before testing. Unless otherwise specified, the specimen shall be placed on the ground and leveled during the test. The leveling device (see 3.16) shall be set in the middle position, but shall not exceed 13 mm from the fully closed position. For multi-functional components (see 3.6), each function shall be tested separately. The test shall be carried out at indoor temperature of 15°C to 27°C. If the ambient temperature exceeds this range during the test, the maximum and/or minimum temperature shall be recorded in the test report. Except for metal, stone and glass materials, the bend test of shelf (see 6.1.4) and the top/bottom plate continuous test (see 6.2.1) shall be carried out under the condition of 45% to 55% relative humidity. If the ambient relative humidity exceeds this range during the test, the maximum and/or minimum relative humidity shall be recorded in the test report. If the test cannot be carried out in accordance with the requirements of this document (if the specified loading pad cannot be used due to the design of the specimen), it shall meet the requirements as much as possible. Any deviation from the test methods specified in this document shall be technically evaluated and recorded in the test report. The specimen shall be thoroughly inspected before the test. All defects shall be recorded and distinguished from those caused by the test. Dimensional measurements shall be carried out if required. It is not necessary to carry out all tests on the same product, but all tests related to a particular component shall be carried out on it. 5 Test equipment and facilities 6 Test procedures for non-movable components
