本标准等同采用ISO 54:1996《通用机械和重型机械用圆柱齿轮模数》（英文版）。
本标准等同翻译ISO 54:1996。
本标准自实施之日起代替GB/T 1357-1987。
本标准是对GB/T 1357-1987《渐开线圆柱齿轮模数》的修订。
本标准规定了通用机械和重型机械用直齿和斜齿渐开线圆柱齿轮的法向模数。
本标准不适用于汽车齿轮。
与GB/T 1357-1987相比，主要内容修改如下：
——本标准不适用于汽车齿轮；
——取消了1以下的模数值，规定模数值≥1；
——第Ⅱ系列中，增加了1.125和1.375;
——第Ⅱ系列中，取消了3.25和3.75。
