Technical specifications for accessibility of windows and doors 1 Scope This document specifies the requirements and test methods for the accessibility of windows and doors. This document is applicable to the windows and doors frequently used by the handicapped people including the disabled, the elderly and children. This document is not applicable to special windows and doors such as fire-proof windows and doors, riot-proof windows and doors, escape windows and doors, radiation-proof shielding windows and doors. 2 Normative references The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute indispensable provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition (including any amendments) applies. GB 2894 Safety signs and guideline for the use GB/T 5823 Terminology for windows and doors GB/T 8478 Aluminum alloy windows and doors GB/T 9158 Test methods of mechanics performance for windows and doors in building GB/T 10001.9 Public information graphical symbols - Part 9: Symbols for accessible facilities GB/T 20909 Steel windows and doors GB/T 28886 Plastic door for buildings GB/T 28887 Plastic window for buildings GB/T 29498 Wood windows and doors GB/T 29734 (all parts) Energy-saving windows and doors for buildings GB/T 31015 Public information guidance systems - Design and setting principles for the consideration of accessible needs GB/T 31433-2015 General specification for building curtain walls, windows and doors JGJ 113 Technical specification for application of architectural glass 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 3961 and the following apply. 3.1 Clear opening width Horizontal opening width available for passage after the openable part of the door is fully opened. 3.2 Plank for protecting the door leaf A protective plank installed under the door leaf to protect the door leaf from the damage by wheelchair footrest and the like. 3.3 L-shape handle This handle is used for opening and closing door and window leaves, and the cross section of its hand-holding part and its rotating shaft is L-shaped. Note: L-shape handle is illustrated in Figure 1. Figure 1 Illustration of L-shape handle 3.4 U-shape handle This handle is used for opening and closing door and window leaves, and the cross section of its hand-holding part and its rotating shaft is U-shaped. Note: U-shape handle is illustrated in Figure 2. Figure 2 Illustration of U-shape handle 4 General requirements 4.1 Aluminum alloy windows and doors shall comply with GB/T 8478, steel windows and doors shall comply with GB/T 20909, plastic windows and doors shall comply with GB/T 28886 and GB/T 28887, wood windows and doors shall comply with GB/T 29498, aluminum-wood aluminum-plastic and steel-plastic composite windows and doors shall comply with GB/T 29734 (all parts), and other windows and doors shall comply with relevant national standards. 4.2 The design, production and installation of windows and doors shall meet the accessibility requirements of material and accessories, specification, movable leaf opening form, handle installation position, operation mode, opening/closing speed, opening/closing force, clear opening width, anti-pinch, anti-collision and anti-misoperation. 4.3 Windows and doors meeting accessibility requirements should be provided with accessibility signs in obvious positions, and the symbol design and setting of accessibility signs shall comply with GB/T 10001.9 and GB/T 31015. 4.4 Sliding doors, flat doors and folding doors should be adopted, and revolving doors and spring doors shall not be adopted, and ground spring doors should not be adopted. 4.5 If adopting glass door, safety glass shall be used, and there shall be eye-catching warning sign that can prompt the existence of glass, 0.85 m ~ 1.50 m high from the bottom of the door frame. 4.6 For the indoor door, there shall be no threshold. For the entrance door and unit door, their threshold height should not be greater than 10 mm and shall not be greater than 15 mm; if the threshold height is greater than 10 mm, it shall be transitioned with an inclined plane whose longitudinal gradient shall not be greater than 1:10. 4.7 Exterior window shall be equipped with anti-misoperation device, and those exterior windows accessible to disabled people, elderly people and children also shall be equipped with relevant device or measure to prevent climbing out. 4.8 Door handle shall be double-sided ones, and shall be L-shape or U-shape. When the window or door leaf is closed, the initial position of its handle shall be horizontal, and the handle length shall not be less than 150 mm. Spherical rotating handle shall not be adopted. 4.9 The toilet door should be opened outwards or via sliding, and can be opened from outside in case of emergency. 4.10 Windows and doors for visually-impaired people shall meet the following requirements: A) The color of the handle shall be obviously different from that of the windows and doors; B) Braille should be marked on or near the handle, indicating how to use the windows and doors. 4.11 Intelligent control system should be installed on windows and doors. Intelligent control systems shall include remote control and smart phone application (APP) operation.
