1 Scope
This document describes a method for measuring the permeability of fabrics to air.
This document is applicable to a variety of textile fabrics and products, including apparel fabrics, domestic fabrics and industrial fabrics.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following term and definition apply.
3.1
air permeability
velocity of an air flow passing perpendicularly through a test specimen under specified conditions of test area, pressure drop and time
4 Principle
The flowrate of air passing perpendicularly through a given area of fabric is measured at a given pressure drop across the fabric test area over a given time period.
5 Specimen preparation
5.1 Sampling
Either select samples in accordance with those specified in the product specification, or as agreed between the interested parties. Representative parts shall be selected for testing, and there shall be no creases, wrinkles, holes, dirt or other abnormalities in the sampling parts, and the distance from the selvage edge shall be more than 150 mm.
In the absence of specification, follow the example of sampling given in Annex A.
