NOTE: Also known as crude corn oil. 3.3 finished product of maize oil Oil obtained by processing crude maize oil (3.2) and intended for human consumption. 3.3.1 pressing maize oil Finished maize oil produced by refining crude maize oil (3.2) obtained by mechanically pressing maize germ. 3.3.2 solvent extraction maize oil Finished maize oil produced by refining crude maize oil (3.2) obtained from maize germ or pressed cake using the property of solvents to dissolve oils. 3.4 sterol 4-desmethyl sterol, a hydroxyl-containing cyclopentanophenanthrene compound, occurring in living organisms in a free state or esterified with fatty acids. 4 Classification 4.1 Maize oil is classified into crude maize oil and finished products of maize oil based on the degree of processing. 4.2 Finished products of maize oil are classified into pressing maize oil and solvent extraction maize oil based on the processing technology. 5 Relative Density and Fatty Acid Composition The relative density and fatty acid composition of maize oil are shown in Table 1. These compositions and parameters represent the basic characteristics of maize oil. When used for authenticity determination, they serve as reference only. The total sterol content and composition in crude maize oil are shown in Annex A. 6 Quality Requirements 6.1 Quality Specifications for Crude Maize Oil The quality specifications for crude maize oil are shown in Table 2. 6.2 Quality Specifications for Finished Products of Maize Oil The quality specifications for finished products of maize oil are shown in Table 3. 7 Test Methods 7.1 Determination of Relative Density: Perform according to GB/T 5526. 7.2 Determination of Fatty Acid Composition: Perform according to GB 5009.168. 7.3 Determination of Transparency, Odour, and Taste: Perform according to GB/T 5525. 7.4 Determination of Moisture and Volatile Matter Content: Perform according to GB 5009.236. 7.5 Determination of Insoluble Impurities Content: Perform according to GB/T 15688. 7.6 Determination of Acid Value: Perform according to GB 5009.229. 7.7 Determination of Colour: Perform according to GB/T 5009.37. 7.8 Heating Test: Perform according to GB/T 5531. 7.9 Determination of Soap Content: Perform according to GB/T 5533. 7.10 Cold Test: Perform according to GB/T 35877. 7.11 Determination of Smoke Point: Perform according to GB/T 20795. 7.12 Determination of Total Sterol Content and Composition: Perform according to GB/T 25223. 8 Inspection Rules 8.1 Sampling Perform sampling according to the requirements of GB/T 5524. 8.2 Factory Inspection 8.2.1 Each batch shall be inspected, and an inspection report shall be issued. 8.2.2 Crude maize oil shall be inspected according to the items specified in Table 2. Finished products of maize oil shall be inspected according to the items specified in Table 3. 8.3 Type Test 8.3.1 A type test shall be conducted when there are significant changes in raw materials, equipment, or processes, or when requested by the regulatory authorities. 8.3.2 All items specified in Table 1, Table 2, and Table 3 shall be tested. If the test results do not conform to the provisions of Table 1, oil extracted from the maize germ used to produce that batch of product may be tested to provide supporting evidence. 8.4 Judgement Rules 8.4.1 If a finished product of maize oil does not indicate its quality grade on the label, it shall be judged as non-conforming to this document. 8.4.2 If a crude maize oil product, after inspection, has one or more items failing to meet the specifications in Table 2, it shall be judged as non-conforming to this document. If a finished product of maize oil, after inspection, has one or more items failing to meet the specifications in Table 3, it shall be judged as non-conforming to the corresponding grade. 9 Labeling 9.1 The product name shall be labeled according to the content of the terms and definitions. 9.2 The processing technology shall be indicated on the packaging or accompanying documents.
