1 Scope
This standard specifies the main breed characteristics and grade assessment methods of Guangling donkeys.
This standard is applicable to the breed identification and grade assessment of Guangling donkeys.
2 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
2.1
Guangling donkey
large local donkey breed being grown in Guangling and Lingqiu counties in the northeastern part of Shanxi Province, which is suitable for cold climate conditions and can be used as meat, and for carrying and pulling
2.2
thorax
body part included by the ribs from the shoulder end to the last rib, and from the back to the lower part of the chest and to both sides, based on the thoracic vertebrae, ribs and sternum
2.3
withers
protruding part above the trunk, formed by the spinous processes of the second to twelfth thoracic vertebrae and the scapular cartilage, muscles and ligaments on both sides, with the third to fifth spinous processes as the highest part
2.4
back
body surface area from behind the withers to the last rib and the upper one-third of both ribs based on the thirteenth to eighteenth thoracic vertebrae
2.5
loin
part from the last rib to the line connecting the anterior edges of the two lumbar angles based on the lumbar vertebrae
2.6
croup
posterior upper part of the trunk between the four points of the two lumbar angles and the ends of the two buttocks, connecting the loin in front and the tail at the back, based on the hip bone and sacrum
2.7
grey
black coat interspersed with white hair
2.8
height of withers
vertical distance from the apex of the withers to the ground
2.9
body length
oblique straight-line distance from the shoulder end to the hip end
2.10
girth of heart
circumference measured posterior to the withers, along the posterior border of the scapula, perpendicular to the ground, around the body
2.11
circumference of cannon bone
horizontal circumference at the lower third of the left foreleg, i.e., the narrowest part of the cannon bone
