本标准规定了连续格式纸的尺寸及其输送孔的直径和位置。这种纸是连续长度的，适用于自动数据处理(ADP)设备，可作为行政管理、商业和技术文件的印刷输出用纸。标准中给出纸的总宽度尺寸不适用于输纸传动装置不可调整的机器。本标准是参照采用国际标准ISO 2784-74《信息处理用连续格式纸—尺寸和链式输送孔》。在自动数据处理设备的高速印刷机及其它类型的办公机器中，最常使用的行间距为4.233mm，字间距为2.54mm，输送孔孔间距为12.7mm。这些数值是本标准制订的依据。
