1 Scope
This standard specifies the structure and parameter of braille character, current braille system, Chinese double-phonic braille system, rules of word segmentation and link writing and writing form.
This standard is applicable to tactile raised dot words used by visual disabled persons.
2 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this standard.
2.1 Braille
Worlds formed by six raised dots (the basic structure) ranked according to certain rules and recognized by touching. It is also known as dot words.
2.2 Chinese braille
A braille system (including word system) formed by adopting the form of dot words and Chinese language features.
2.3 Braille character
Characters formed by different permutations and combinations of six-dot system within a cell.
2.4 Cell
The rectangle position occupied by a braille character.
2.5 Dot
Each raised part of the braille character, namely the raised dot of braille character.
2.6 Position of dot
The position of each dot (6 in total) in a cell.
2.7 Order of dot
The sequence of the six dots in a cell, namely the number of dot position. It is expressd by Arabic numerals 1~6.
2.8 Dot height
The vertical distance from the top of braille character raised dot to the bottom.
2.9 Diameter of dot
The diameter of the bottom circle of braille character raised dot.
2.10 Dot spacing
The distance between the bottom circle centers of raised dots in two adjacent dot positions in a cell.
2.11 Cell spacing
The distance between the bottom circle centers of raised dots in two adjacent dot positions of two adjacent cells.
2.12 Row spacing
The distance between the bottom circle centers of raised dots in two adjacent dot positions of two adjacent braille character rows.
2.13 Current braille system
Current braille system (hereinafter referred to as the current braille) was issued by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China in 1953. It is a nationwide system which regards Beijing phonetics as standard, mandarin as foundation and word as unit. A complete syllable composed of sound, rhyme and tone. It is recorded by word segmentation and link writing.
2.14 Chinese double-phonic braille system
Chinese double-phonic braille system (hereinafter referred to as Chinese double-phonic braille) is a braille reform system generalized after approving by the State Language Work Committees in 1988. Such system can express the sound, rhyme and tone of Chinese in 2 braille characters; the whole system includes alphabet, punctuation, rules for separating homophone, rules for abbreviation and rules of word identification with mute. Meanwhile, rules of word segmentation and link writing are also adopted.
2.15 Rules of word identification with mute
It is a braille annotation method specified in Chinese double-phonic braille. Word identification with mute is a supplementary element in running text and is divided into mute for word identification and mute for explanation.
2.16 Mute for word identification
