1 Scope
This part of GB/T 15565 specifies the basic terms and their definitions for graphical symbols. This part is applicable to graphical symbols and the related fields.
2 Symbols
2.1 Character Single letter, digit, punctuation or other specified symbols. 2.2 Character set Finite set of different graphical characters (Section 2.1). 2.3 Symbol Symbol indicating certain object or concept which is provided with simplified visual image. 2.4 Letter symbol Symbol composed of letter, digit, Chinese character or their combination (Section 2.3). [GB/T 20001.2-2001, Definition (Section 3.3)] 2.5 Graphical symbol Symbol for information transmission which mainly comprises graphs and is independent of language (Section 2.3). 2.5.1 Symbol original Design drawing of graphical symbol drawn on design framework as datum or for duplication according to indicating criteria of graphical symbols (Section 2.5). Note: design frameworks of graphical symbols for use in technical product documentation (Article 2.5.12), graphical symbols for use on equipment (Article 2.5.13) and graphical symbols for use on sign (Article 2.5.14) are basic grid (Section 3.1), basic pattern (Section 3.2) and basic model (Section 3.3) respectively. 2.5.2 Registered symbol original Symbol original registered by relevant standardization organization or constitution as established pattern (Article 2.5.1). 2.5.3 Common symbol Graphical symbol which is applicable for multi-field and multi-profession or applied universally (Section 2.5).
