1 Scope This Standard specifies the principle, apparatus, abrasive, specimen, test procedure, calculation and assessment of test result, and test report of the rolling determination of abrasion resistance for inorganic paving materials. This Standard is applicable to the abrasion resistance determination of inorganic paving materials such as concrete, ceramic and natural stone. 2 Normative References The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this Standard. For dated reference, subsequent amendments to (excluding the corrections), or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. For any undated references, the latest edition of the document referred to applies. GB/T 2478-2008 Conventional Abrasive-Brown Fused Alumina 3 Principle Create grinding pits on the service surface of the specimen with steel friction wheel under the specified conditions and effect of abrasive; and measure the length of the grinding pit on the specimen surface, which is used to represent the abrasion resistance of the specimen. 4 Apparatus 4.1 Steel Wheel Abrasion Tester The steel wheel abrasion tester is constitute by a steel friction wheel, abrasive hopper, channelization hopper, clamping pulley and counterweight, etc., as shown in Figure 1. The regulating valve of abrasive hopper is to control the flowing and stopping of abrasive and that of channelization hopper is to adjust to and guarantee a constant flow rate of abrasive. 4.1.1 Friction wheel type The steel friction wheel is made of Steel 45, which is subjected to quenching and tempering and is HB 203~HB 245 in hardness. The steel friction wheel is φ200.0mm±0.2mm in diameter and 70.0mm±0.1mm in thickness. The rotation speed of steel friction wheel is 75r/(60±3)s. The steel friction wheel shall be replaced if its diameter wears to φ199.0mm. 4.1.2 Clamping pulley The clamping pulley is mounted on the abrasion tester rail and is provided with a specimen holder. The specimen is made to contact the steel friction wheel using the 14.00kg±0.01kg counterweight and to control the tension between the specimen and steel friction wheel.
