1  Scope

This standard specifies the ring-and-ball method to determine the softening points for rubber antiagers and vulcanization accelerators.
This standard is applicable to the determination of softening points for rubber antiagers and vulcanization accelerators.

2  Method Summary

Put the steel ball with specified mass on the specimen ring full of specimen; heat the assembly at the constant heating speed; the specimen softens and falls, under the gravity action of the steel ball, with the steel ball to the specified distance and temperature at this moment is the softening point of the specimen.

3  Instruments and Reagent

3.1  Softening point tester (See Figure 1)
3.1.1  Specimen ring: ring made of brass or stainless steel and its form and dimension is detailed in Figure 2.
