《铁质废物箱技术条件》是根据建设部建标（1992）214号文“关于1992年建设部工业产品标准计量规程制、修订项目计划”要求而制订的。由于国内各地生产废物的规格、形状不一致，材质各异，无统一的标准，不能互换，影响其配套设施的使用，不适应行业技术进行的需要，特制订本标准。标准制订过程中参考了国内外有关资料。本标准规定了公共场所用废物箱的定义型号基本参数和技术要求等。
本标准适用于设于室外公共场所的铁质废物箱，其他材料制作的废物箱及室内废物箱可参照执行。
本标准不适用于垃圾集装箱、垃圾桶、垃圾斗等专用容器。
