3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following term and definition apply.
3.1 cashmere
The fine undercoat fibres obtained from goats (Capra hircus laingier) with a diameter of 25 μm or less.
Note: By processing stage, cashmere includes raw goat cashmere, scoured goat cashmere and dehaired goat cashmere.
[Source: GB/T 11851-2018, with modifications]
Note: Raw goat cashmere may be obtained from live goats by either plucking or shearing.
3.3
scoured cashmere
Cashmere (3.1) that has been processed by washing.
3.4
dehaired cashmere
Cashmere (3.1) that has been processed by washing and industrial dehairing.
3.5
guard hair
Hair fibres with a diameter greater than 25 μm.
3.6
dark fibres
Hair fibres that show an obvious colour difference from the primary base colour.
3.7
non-animal fibre in cashmere
Fibrous substances of non-animal origin, such as plant fibres and man-made fibres, that are mixed into cashmere.
3.8
other animal fibre in cashmere
Fibrous substances from animals other than goats that are mixed into cashmere.
3.9
foreign matter
Non-fibrous substances such as soil, insect debris and grass fragments attached to cashmere.
3.10
scoured yield
The percentage of the conditioned mass of scoured cashmere relative to the mass of raw goat cashmere.
3.11
pure cashmere content (net cashmere content)
The percentage of the mass of cashmere after washing and drying, with coarse hairs and impurities removed, and corrected for conventional moisture regain and conventional alcohol extractables, relative to the total mass of the cashmere sample.
3.12
corrected mass of scoured cashmere
The mass of cashmere or scoured cashmere converted on the basis of the pure cashmere content.
3.13
guard hair content
The percentage of the mass of fibres with a diameter greater than 25 μm relative to the total mass of dehaired cashmere.
3.14
foreign matter content
The percentage of the mass of impurities relative to the total mass of dehaired cashmere.
3.15
number of foreign matter particles
The number of impurity particles contained per gram of dehaired cashmere.
3.17.6
moth-eaten cashmere
Cashmere that has been damaged by insects, resulting in shortened fibre length.
3.17.7
mildewed cashmere
Cashmere that has deteriorated due to heating caused by moisture absorption.
4 Colour classification
4.1 Cashmere is classified by its natural colour into white cashmere, grey cashmere and purple cashmere, denoted by W, G and B respectively. The classification provisions are given in Table 1.
