GB 20031-2024 Foam fire extinguishing equipment
1 Scope
This document defines the terms and definitions of foam fire extinguishing equipment, specifies the model designation, parameter series, requirements, inspection rules, packaging, transportation and storage, and describes the corresponding test methods.
This document is applicable to foam fire extinguishing equipment such as foam proportioning equipment, foam generator, foam ejector, unit foam fire extinguishing equipment and related auxiliary device.
This document is not applicable to foam-spray extinguishing equipment.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
foam fire extinguishing equipment
equipment that thoroughly mixes foam concentrate, water and air to produce foam for extinguishing fire
Note: It mainly consists of foam proportioning equipment, foam generator (e.g. low-expansion foam generator, medium-expansion foam generator, high-expansion foam generator, high back pressure foam generator, foam hook branchpipe, foam sprinkler, etc.), foam ejector (e.g. foam monitor, foam nozzle, etc.), unit foam fire extinguishing equipment (e.g. semi-fixed foam fire extinguishing equipment, foam fire hydrant box) and related auxiliary equipment (e.g. foam concentrate storage tank, foam concentrate supply pump, foam fire hydrant, foam solution conveying hose, etc.).

ratio of the volume of foam to that of the foam solution from which it was made

low-expansion foam
fire foam with a foam expansion ratio below 20

medium-expansion foam
fire foam with a foam expansion ratio of 20 to 200

volume fraction of foam concentrate in foam solution
3.7
balanced pressure proportioning equipment
proportioning equipment which can automatically control concentration within a certain range of flow pressure and flow, by using a separate foam concentrate supply pump to inject foam concentrate into the pressure stream at a set pressure difference, and then make it get through the balance valve, orifice plate or venturi (or a combination of an orifice plate and a venturi)
Note: Its components include proportioning equipment, atmospheric pressure foam concentrate storage tank, foam concentrate supply pump and standby pump, safety valve, balance valve, check valve, control valve, control panel, etc.

direct injection variable pump output proportioning equipment
proportioning equipment with the flow meter and the control unit combined to control the foam concentrate supply pump to inject the foam concentrate into the flow of the system at a set proportion
Note: Its components include atmospheric pressure foam concentrate storage tank, proportioning equipment (when applicable), foam concentrate supply pump, flow meter, control panel, control valve, etc.

coupled water-turbine driven pump proportioning equipment
proportioning equipment with blade type or spiral water turbine connected with the foam concentrate supply pump by a coupling, which uses the pressure water supplied by the foam system water supply pump to drive the water turbine, and then injects the foam concentrate with the foam concentrate supply pump into the foam fire fighting water pipe behind the water turbine at a set proportion
Note: Its components include water turbine, foam concentrate supply pump, safety valve, solenoid valve (when applicable), control valve, mixing pipe, etc.

high back pressure foam generator
foam generator which introduces air into the compressed foam solution stream for generating low-expansion foam, with a certain pressure (gauge pressure) at the outlet

foam hook branchpipe
foam generator consisting of hook branchpipe and air foam generator
Note: The upper part of hook branchpipe has a curved nozzle, which is used to hook the upper edge of oil tank on fire and spray foam into the tank.
3.12
semi-fixed foam fire extinguishing equipment
unit foam fire extinguishing equipment which consists of foam nozzle or foam generator, proportioning equipment, fire hose, atmospheric pressure foam concentrate storage tank and wheeled chassis, etc.
3.13
foam fire hydrant box
boxlike unit foam fire extinguishing equipment consisting of box, proportioning equipment, foam nozzle, atmospheric pressure foam concentrate storage tank, fire hose reel or fire hose and an indoor fire hydrant, which has the function of water supply and fire extinguishing
4 Model designation
Model of foam fire extinguishing equipment consists of class code, product code, feature code, main parameters and customized manufacturer code. Product code, feature code and main parameters are represented by the symbols shown in Table 1, and the customized manufacturer code is optional.
The model designation of foam fire extinguishing equipment is as follows.
Example 1: PHYM32/4-6 represents a diaphragm type pressure proportioning equipment, with maximum flow rate of 32 L/s, foam concentration storage tank volume of 4 m3, and concentration of 6%.
Example 2: PCL4 represents a vertical low-expansion foam generator with rated flow of 4 L/s.
