1 Scope
This document specifies the technical requirements for electronic flash equipment used in photography, describes the corresponding test methods, and stipulates inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, and storage.
This document applies to the manufacture of external electronic flash equipment designed to provide primary or supplementary light for camera photography.
This document does not apply to high-power studio flash equipment.

3.1 Light Output
The integral of the luminous intensity over time in the direction of the reflector axis.
Note: The unit of light output is candela second (cd·s).
3.2 Ready Indication
The indication signal when the flash equipment is charged and ready to flash.
3.3 Guide Number (GN)
The product of the camera lens aperture number (F-number) and the distance from the flash light source to the subject, required to achieve proper exposure for the film or digital camera sensor, related to the ISO sensitivity of the film or digital camera.
Note: The guide number is a measure of the light output of the flash unit, with the unit being meter (m).

3.4 Ready Number
The GN measured when the ready indication (3.2) begins to display.
3.5 Effective Angle of Coverage
The angle between the reflector axis and the beam where the luminous intensity is half the axial intensity.
Note: For symmetrical reflectors, the effective angle of coverage is twice the effective half-angle. For flash equipment emitting rectangular beams, the effective angle of coverage is defined by the horizontal and vertical angles.
3.6 Recycle Time
The interval between the flash release and the start of the next ready indication.
3.7 Number of Flashes per Battery Set
The number of consecutive flashes the flash equipment can perform under specified working cycles until the ready indication no longer appears within 60 seconds.
