本标准等同采用ISO 8497：1994《绝热——圆管绝热层的稳态传热特性的测定》。
本标准代替GB/T 10296-1988《绝热层稳态传热性质的测定 圆管法》。
本标准规定了通常在高于环境温度使用的测定圆管状绝热材料稳态传热性质的一个方法。本标准规定了测试装置的要求但没有规定装置的设计。
本标准与GB/T 10296-1988相比较主要变化如下：
——本标准等同采用ISO 8497：1994，格式与GB/T 10296-1988存在一定区别。
——术语定义由引用GB 432改为直接引用ISO 7345：1987《绝热——物理量和定义》。以上两个标准为类似标准，使用时为了方便可以参考GB 4132。
——增加了引言。
——增加了对标定端帽与标定管的描述。
——增加了两章内容，第6章“一般考虑事项”与第10章“端帽的修正”。
