Packaging methods for sheet paper include platen or pallet packaging, carton or wooden case packaging, flexible packaging, etc. Packaging methods for reels include reel packaging, pallet packaging, etc. Packaging methods for rolls include reel packaging, pallet packaging, flexible packaging, carton or wooden case packaging, etc. 4.2 Pulp is classified by packaging form into bales, rolls and loose pulp. 5 Packaging **5.1 General 5.1.1 The packaging of paper, paperboard and pulp shall adequately protect the products from loosening, dampness, deformation and damage during transport and storage. 5.1.2 Reasonable packaging methods shall be selected according to the type, size and surrounding environment of the paper, paperboard and pulp to ensure effective protection of the products during storage and transport. 5.1.3 Where requirements are met, the amount of packaging materials should be minimized. Packaging materials shall be clean, dry and free from odours, and priority shall be given to materials that do not cause environmental pollution or are reusable, recyclable or recoverable. For paper and paperboard intended for food contact, packaging materials in direct contact with the product shall be non-toxic and harmless, ensuring that the product is not contaminated by substances or odours harmful to human health. 5.1.4 The total content of lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium in packaging materials shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 16716.1. Cartons for transport packaging shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 6543. Wooden cases shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 12464. Pallets shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 16470. Other packaging materials shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 9174. 5.1.5 The water absorption of packaging paper for inner and outer packaging shall not exceed 30.0 g/m², and the moisture content of wood for packaging shall not exceed 20 %. 5.1.6 Products in the same package shall be from the same batch. In special cases, when products from different batches are placed in the same package, they shall be clearly identified. 5.1.7 The mass and dimensions of packages shall comply with the transport regulations of the relevant carrier. 5.2 Sheet Paper Packaging 5.2.1 Platen or Pallet Packaging 5.2.1.1 Requirements for small packages and outer packaging 5.2.1.1.1 When using platen or pallet packaging, paper and paperboard may be packed into small packages. An appropriate number of sheets per small package shall be selected according to the grammage of the paper and paperboard, such as 250 sheets, 125 sheets, 100 sheets, etc. They may also be packed by reams, with each ream of paper and paperboard generally consisting of 500 sheets. 5.2.1.1.2 Ream labels shall be affixed to the ends of the small packages, with contents including name, grammage, specification and sheet count. If small packages are not used, coloured labels shall be used to separate the paper units according to the specified sheet count. 5.2.1.1.3 For paper units consisting of small packages or without small packages, the outer packaging shall be wrapped with wrapping paper or plastic film by shrink or stretch packaging. The ends of the packaging material shall be folded over the ends of the paper unit and sealed securely. 5.2.1.1.4 The top/bottom sides and machine/cross directions of sheet paper and paperboard shall be uniformly oriented. 5.2.1.1.5 Depending on the moisture-proof requirements of the product, moisture-proof paper or plastic film may be used for packaging. 5.2.1.2 Requirements for platens 5.2.1.2.1 Wooden platens shall have a smooth surface, with nails not protruding from the surface, and there shall be no holes larger than 30 mm in diameter on the platen surface. 5.2.1.2.2 Plastic platens, metal platens or platens made of other materials may be used as required. 5.2.1.3 Requirements for pallets 5.2.1.3.1 By packaging form, pallets may be classified into those with an upper platen and those without an upper platen. Pallets with an upper platen are convenient for forklift loading, unloading and stacking, and are particularly suitable for container transport and long-distance transport. Pallets without an upper platen are convenient for forklift loading and unloading but are not convenient for stacking, and are generally suitable for medium- and short-distance transport. 5.2.1.3.2 By packaging material, pallets may be classified into wooden pallets, honeycomb paper pallets, plastic pallets, metal pallets, etc. Regardless of the material used, the strength and waterproof properties of the pallets shall meet the requirements for use. 5.2.1.4 Strapping requirements 5.2.1.4.1 Paper units shall be placed on pallets without an upper platen, or between two platens or between a platen and a pallet. Moisture-proof measures such as laying moisture-proof paper or plastic film should be taken above and below the paper units. 5.2.1.4.2 Strapping shall be carried out using strapping bands, iron wire or steel bands. Strapping shall be firm, and the packaging shall not break or the paper twist under slight external force. Strapping with strapping bands, iron wire or steel bands shall be tied at the centre of the platen straps, without tilting, and with uniform tightness. When using iron wire, edge protectors shall be used at the corners of the platens to prevent the wire from embedding into the wooden strips and loosening the packaging. The knots of the iron wire shall face outward. When using steel bands, grooves may be cut at the corners of the platen surface for the steel bands to fit into, or edge protectors shall be used. The connections of steel bands shall be secured with buckles or by overlapping. 5.2.1.4.3 As required, after strapping, the perimeter of the paper units may be wrapped with paper corner protectors or plastic woven fabric, or shrink or stretch packaging with plastic film may be applied. 5.2.2 Carton or Wooden Case Packaging 5.2.2.1 When using carton or wooden case packaging, moisture-proof paper or plastic film should be lined on the case walls, and the case should be filled as full as possible. 5.2.2.2 After the products are packed, the packaging material on the four sides shall be folded up, and moisture-proof materials such as moisture-proof paper or plastic film shall be placed on top before the cover is placed and the case is sealed. For cartons, the cover shall be pressed flat, the cover and edges shall be taped, and then the carton shall be secured with two strapping bands. The cover shall be sealed firmly, ensuring that the inner packaged items are not damaged. Metal sealing staples, strapping bands and buckles shall not be rusty. 5.2.3 Flexible Packaging 5.2.3.1 For short-distance transport, flexible packaging may be used.
