1 Scope This part of GB/T 11064 specifies the methods for determining carbonate content in the lithium hydroxide monohydrate. This part is applicable to the determination of carbonate content in the lithium hydroxide monohydrate, with a range of 0.15%~2.00%. 2 Method summary Being dissolved in water, the test sample is titrated with hydrochloric acid standard solution using phenolphthalein as the indicator until the red color disappears, and then using methyl orange as the indicator. Continue to titrate with hydrochloric acid standard solution till stable orange red, and then calculate the carbonate content. 3 Reagents Unless otherwise specified, analytically-pure reagents and secondary deionized water are used for purpose of this part. 3.1 Phenolphthanlein indicator (10 g/L): weigh 1 g phenolphthalein, and dissolve it in 100 mL ethanol (95%). 3.2 Methyl orange indicator solution (1 g/L): weigh 0.1 g methyl orange, dissolve in 70°C water, cool and dilute it to 100 mL. 3.2 Hydrochloric acid solution (2 mol/L): transfer 167 mL hydrochloric acid (ρ=1.19 g/mL) into a 1000 mL volumetric flask, dilute to the scale with water and mix well. 3.4 Methyl red-bromocresol green indicator: take 30 mL bromocresol green solution (3.4.1) and 10 mL methyl red solution (3.4.2) and mix them well. 3.4.1 Bromocresol green solution: weigh 0.1 g bromocresol green and dissolve it in 100mL ethanol.
