1 Scope
This document specifies the product classification, composition, technical requirements, inspection rules, marking and instructions for use for ultrasonic stage recorders, and describes the test methods.
This document is applicable to ultrasonic stage recorders for measuring the water stage of rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and canals.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain requirements which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 50095-2014 and the following apply.
3.1
ultrasonic stage recorder
instrument measuring water stage by installing an ultrasonic transducer at a known elevation above or below the water surface, and calculating the measured stage by recording the shortest round-trip propagation time of the acoustic pulse between the transducer and the water surface and the velocity of sound propagation
[Source: GB/T 50095-2014, 11.4.2.4]
3.2
ultrasonic stage recorder with air medium
ultrasonic stage recorder with the ultrasonic transducer installed above the water surface, using air as the ultrasonic propagation medium
[Source: GB/T 50095-2014, 11.4.2.4(1)]
3.3
ultrasonic stage recorder with water medium
ultrasonic stage recorder with the ultrasonic transducer installed below the water surface, using the water body as the ultrasonic propagation medium
3.4
acoustic path
area effectively covered by ultrasonic waves during directional propagation in a medium
3.5
blanking distance
area within a certain distance from the ultrasonic transducer where valid stage measurement data cannot be provided
3.6
emission angle
emission angle required for the ultrasonic stage recorder to obtain accurate stage data through the transmission, reflection, and reception processing of ultrasonic waves
Example: See Figure 1 for the schematic diagram.
4 Product classification and composition
4.1 Classification
According to the ultrasonic propagation medium, ultrasonic stage recorders are classified into ultrasonic stage recorders with air medium and ultrasonic stage recorders with water medium.
4.2 Composition
Ultrasonic stage recorders should consist of an ultrasonic transducer, ultrasonic transmission/reception control processing, and may include data storage, display, transmission, and power supply parts, which can be selected and equipped as needed. The product can adopt an integrated structure.
5 Technical requirements
5.1 Appearance
Surface of the ultrasonic stage recorder shall be clean, without paint peeling or corrosion. The bonding surface of the transducer shall show no delamination.
5.2 Measuring range
5.2.1 With air medium
Measuring range can be 0 m to 1 m,0 m to 2 m, 0 m to 5 m, 0 m to 10 m, 0 m to 20 m.
5.2.2 With water medium
Measuring range can be 0 m to 1 m,0 m to 5 m, 0 m to 10 m, 0 m to 20 m, 0 m to 40 m.
5.3 Resolution
The resolution can be divided into 0.1 cm, 0.5 cm, and 1.0 cm.
5.4 Accuracy
When the measuring range is not greater than 10 m, based on the results of static water tests, the accuracy of the ultrasonic stage recorder can be expressed in classes, and the maximum permissible error shall comply with the specifications in Table 1. When the measuring range is greater than 10 m, the maximum permissible error shall not be greater than 0.2 % of the measuring range.
5.5 Repeatability
Repeatability, expressed by experimental standard deviation, shall be less than 0.5 times the absolute value of the maximum permissible error.
5.6 Blanking distance
For recorders with air medium, it shall not be greater than 0.8 m; for recorders with water
