Laboratory efficacy test methods and criteria for public health insecticides for pesticide registration—Part 4: Mosquito coil
1 Scope
This document specifies the laboratory efficacy test methods and evaluation criteria for mosquito coils used in pesticide registration.
This document applies to the determination and evaluation of the efficacy of mosquito coils against mosquitoes through fumigation during pesticide registration.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute essential provisions of this document. For dated references, only the editions cited apply. For undated references, the latest edition (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
Terms and definitions established in GB/T 19378—2017 and GB/T 31721—2015, as well as the following, apply to this document.
3.1
Mosquito coil
A spiral-shaped disk formulation that does not produce open flames when ignited (smoldered) and releases active ingredients into the space through smoke.
[Source: GB/T 19378—2017, 2.5.3.2]
3.2
Susceptible strain
A relatively homogeneous test insect population that remains sensitive to insecticides due to no prior exposure to them.
[Source: GB/T 31721—2015, 4.5.4.18]
3.3
Median knockdown time (KT50)
The time required to knockdown 50% of the target population under a specific drug dose.
[Source: GB/T 31721—2015, 4.5.4.26, modified]
4 Test materials
4.1 Test pesticide
Specify the pesticide's Chinese/English common name or code, formulation type, active ingredient content, manufacturer, production date or batch number, etc.
4.2 Target test organism
Culex pipiens pallens (northern regions) or Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus (southern regions). Raise the susceptible strain test insects according to the methods in NY/T 1964.2. Select non-blood-fed female adults weighing (2.0 ± 0.2) mg on the 3rd to 5th day after emergence.
