本部分代替ＧＢ／Ｔ１５９７２．２—１９９８《光纤总规范　第２部分：尺寸参数试验方法》的第５章、第６章和第８章。本部分为第一次修订，它与ＧＢ／Ｔ１５９７２．２×其他部分一起代替ＧＢ／Ｔ１５９７２．２—１９９８ 。本标准规定了测量未涂覆光纤几何参数的试验方法，确立了测量的统一试验程序和技术要求。 本部分适用于对Ａ 类多模光纤和Ｂ类单模光纤的测量和成品光纤光缆的商业性检验。 本部分与ＧＢ／Ｔ１５９７２．２—１９９８第５章、第６章和第８章相比主要变化如下：
———删除了“折射率剖面法”的提法，将其包括的试验方法直接作为本部分的两种试验方法：方法Ａ：折射近场法，方法Ｂ：横向干涉法（１９９８年版的第５章；本版的附录Ａ、附录Ｂ）；
———修改了折射近场法对单模光纤聚焦光斑尺寸要求，光斑尺寸改为小于１．５μｍ（１９９８年版的第５章；本版的附录Ａ 中Ａ．２．２）；
———规定了光纤几何参数的基准试验方法（见本版的第４章）；
———对每一种试验方法的特定要求分别用附录的形式给出（１９９８年版的第５章、第６章、第８章；本版的附录Ａ、附录Ｂ、附录Ｃ 和附录Ｄ）。
