本部分与ＧＢ／Ｔ１５９７２．２—１９９８第７章、第８章相比主要变化如下：
———原正文中的两种试验方法详细描述分别用附录Ａ 和附录Ｂ 的形式给出（１９９８年版的第７章、第８章；本版的附录Ａ、附录Ｂ）；
———规定了方法Ａ 为基准试验方法（见本版的第４章）；
———规定了方法Ｂ也适用于Ａ３类、Ａ４类多模光纤（见本版的表１）。
