本部分为ＧＢ／Ｔ１５９７２的第３１ 部分，本部分代替ＧＢ／Ｔ１５９７２．３—１９９８《光纤总规范　第３部分：机械性能试验方法》中第７第８章。本标准规定了确定光纤样品抗张强度值的试验方法，本部分的目的是要对光纤的机械特性——抗张强度建立一个统一的技术要求。本部分适用于Ａ１、Ａ２、Ａ３类多模光纤和Ｂ类单模光纤的测量。
本部分与ＧＢ／Ｔ１５９７２．３—１９９８第７、第８章相比主要变化如下：

———试验标准大气条件改为：温度２３℃±５℃；相对湿度４５％±２５％（本版的第３章）。
