3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
hoisting device
The complete set of auxiliary equipment and facilities required for hoisting flags, including flagpoles, finials, flag bases, etc.
3.2
tapered flagpole
A conical flagpole made of materials such as stainless steel, aluminum alloy, or metal composites, with a smaller top diameter and a larger bottom diameter.
3.3
flag flying on a square
A flag hoisted in a public square or in front of a building.
3.4
flag flying on a wall
A flag hoisted at a certain location on the exterior wall of a building, forming a specific angle with the building wall.
3.5
flag flying on a building
A flag hoisted on the rooftop of a building.
3.6
flag flying in a procession
A flag carried and displayed in a marching procession.
3.7
indoor standing flag
A flag displayed upright on the floor in offices, conference rooms, or halls.
3.8
flag flying on a table
A flag placed on a desktop.
NOTE: Includes single-pole single-flag and single-pole double-wing flags (also known as signing flags).
3.9
spacing between adjacent flagpoles
The distance between adjacent flagpoles when two or more flagpoles are erected in a square or in front of a building.
3.10
degree of flagpole bending
The bending condition of the flagpole shaft along its length.
NOTE: The total curvature is the ratio of the total chord height of the bend along the total length to the total length.
3.11
cap of the flag staff
The decorative element, typically spherical, at the top of the flagpole.
4 Requirements
4.1 Material of Hoisting Devices
4.1.1 For the construction of national flag hoisting devices (excluding the base for square flags) complying with GB 12982, materials such as stainless steel, aluminum alloy, metal composites, etc., may be used.
4.1.2 The physical properties of the material for square flag flagpoles shall include design strength, safety factor, bending stress, corrosion resistance, weather resistance, etc. It shall ensure that the flagpole does not fall, bend, or break under the geographical location and environmental climatic conditions where the flagpole is installed.
4.2 Color of Hoisting Devices
4.2.1 The colors specified in this document are designated by common names.
4.2.2 For outdoor flagpoles within the hoisting device, the preferred colors are silver, white, natural metal color, titanium gold, bronze, rose gold, gray, and other common colors. Other colors selected should harmonize with the surrounding environment. Indoor flagpoles should be in the silver-white, gold, or gray series.
4.2.3 The color of the base for square flags should harmonize with the color of other parts of the hoisting device.
4.3 Appearance of Hoisting Devices
4.3.1 Flagpoles shall undergo surface treatment, resulting in an appearance that is straight, smooth, clean, free from stains, and free from unevenness, obvious processing marks, and scratches.
4.3.2 The strength and color of the ropes and pulleys configured for square flag flagpoles should be suitable for the hoisting flagpole.
4.3.3 The color and luster of the flagpole surface shall be uniform, without obvious color difference or dullness. It shall be free from oil stains, discoloration, and foreign odors. The flagpole surface may undergo brushing or polishing treatment according to user requirements.
4.3.4 Other materials whose physical properties and appearance meet or exceed the requirements specified in 4.1.2, 4.2.2, 4.3.1, 4.3.2, and 4.3.3 may also be used for manufacturing national flag hoisting devices.
4.4 Shape and Dimensions of Hoisting Devices
4.4.1 Shape of Hoisting Devices
The cross-section of the flagpole in a hoisting device shall be circular. The finial should preferably be spherical.
4.4.2 Dimensions of Hoisting Devices
4.4.2.1 Flag Flying on a Square
The dimensional configuration of flagpoles and flag sizes for square flags is shown in Table 1.
4.4.2.2 Stainless Steel Flagpoles
The dimensional configuration of stainless steel flagpoles is shown in Table 2.
4.4.2.3 Aluminum Alloy Flagpoles
The dimensional configuration of aluminum alloy flagpoles is shown in Table 3.
4.4.2.4 Metal Composite Material Flagpoles
The dimensional configuration of metal composite material flagpoles shall be according to Table 2 or Table 3.
4.4.2.5 Flag Flying on a Building Wall
The configuration of flagpoles and flag sizes for flags flying on a building wall is shown in Table 4.
4.4.2.6 Flag Flying on a Building
The configuration of flagpoles and flag sizes for flags flying on a building is shown in Table 5.
4.4.2.7 Flag Flying in a Procession
The configuration of flagpoles and flag sizes for flags flying in a procession is shown in Table 6.
4.4.3 Dimensions of Indoor Standing Flag and Table Flag Hoisting Devices
4.4.3.1 Indoor Standing Flag
The configuration of flagpoles and flag sizes for indoor standing flags is shown in Table 7.
4.4.3.2 Table Flag
4.4.3.2.1 The configuration of flagpoles and flag sizes for table flags is shown in Table 8.
4.4.3.2.2 For the single-pole double-wing flag, the supporting wings should be symmetrical relative to the vertical pole. The angle between the two wings should preferably be within the range of 110° to 120°, see Figure 1.
4.5 Tapered Flagpole
Shall comply with the requirements specified in Annex A.
