本标准适用于高度和长度大于1.5m的屏障，但只要有关各方同意，也可用于较小的屏障。因为环境条件会影响到室外的测量，因此，建议测量限制在距屏障25m的范围内，但若有关各方同意，测量也可用于更大的距离。现场测试的结果会出理差异。因此，不同屏障的性能只能在同样位置用同样测量方法得到的确良数据基础上进行比较。本标准仅适用于完整的屏障而不适用于组成它的单位部件。屏障部件(例如板件、门、窗)的隔声和吸声应按其他有关标准测量。本标准不适用于开敞办公室的屏障和处理社区噪声的户外声屏障。同样也不适用于产品认证。
