本标准规定了化学品活性污泥呼吸抑制试验的方法概述、试验准备、试验程序、质量保证与质量控制、数据与报告。
本标准适用于大多数水溶性、低挥发性、易滞留于水体的物质；不适用于在氧作用下可能发生磷酸化而分解的物质。对于水溶性有限的受试物，可能无法测定半效应浓度。
本标准提供一种快速筛选方法，鉴定哪些物质可能对污水处理厂的好氧微生物产生不利影响，并为生物降解试验提供相应的无抑制受试物浓度。
