1 Scope
This document describes the film contact method, a quantitative test method for the determination of antimicrobial activity of leather.
This document is applicable to the determination of antimicrobial activity of non-absorbent leather.

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

antimicrobial activity
ability to use chemical or physical methods to kill or hinder the growth and reproduction of bacteria and fungi, which can reduce their quantity and activity

3.2
control sample
sample that is not antimicrobial treated and is used to verify the growth conditions of the test microorganisms
4 Principle
By inoculating quantitative microorganisms on the surface of non-absorbent leather sample, the microorganisms are uniformly contacted with the surface of the sample by sticking a film. After a certain period of culture, the number of viable bacteria on the surface of the sample is determined, and the antibacterial rate is calculated to express the antibacterial activity of the sample.
