本标准规定了用别克平滑度仪纸和纸板平滑度的试验方法。本标准适用于纸和纸板平滑度的测定，其测定范围很广，尤其适用于较为平滑的纸和纸板。但对于非常平滑的样品，其测定时间很长，会带来不准确的结果。本标准不适用于测定厚度大于0.5mm或透气度很大的纸和纸板，因为大量的空气通过测试表面会影响测试结果。本标准不适用于粗糙的纸和纸板平滑度的测定。
