GB/T 5023《额定电压450／750V及以下聚氯乙烯绝缘电缆》分为七个部分，本部分为GB/T 5023的第5部分。
本部分代替GB 5023.5-1997《额定电压450/750V及以下聚氯乙烯绝缘电缆 第2部分：试验方法》。
GB/T 5023的本部分详细规定了额定电压300/500V及以下聚氯乙烯软电缆（软线）的技术要求。
所有电缆均应符合GB/T 5023.1规定的相应要求，并且各种型号电缆应分别符合本部分规定的特殊要求。
本部分与GB 5023.5-1997相比主要变化如下：
——规范性引用文件中增加了下列文件：
　　IEC 60719额定电压450/750V及以下圆形铜导体电缆平均外径上限和下限的计算方法；
——删除了第3章扁形无护套软线60227 IEC 42；
——增加了导体温度为90℃的耐热轻型聚氯乙烯护套软线（60227 IEC 56）；
——增加了导体温度为90℃的耐热普通聚氯乙烯护套软线（60227 IEC 57）；
——60227 IEC 43型电缆设定平均外形尺寸下限；
——4.3.2中修改为70℃绝缘电阻应不小于表５第７栏的规定值；
——第4章户内装饰照明回路用软线导体修改为GB/T 3596-1997中第5种导体。
