GB/T 5169《电工电子产品着火危险试验》分为22个部分，本部分为GB/T 5169的第15部分。
本部分代替GB/Z 5169.15-2001《电工电子产品着火危险试验 试验方法 500W标称预混合型火焰和导则》。 GB/T 5169的本部分规定了产生500W标称预混合型试验火焰的具体要求。火焰的总高度大约为125mm。本部分给出了两种试验火焰：方法A火焰以甲烷为燃料，方法C火焰以甲烷或丙烷为燃料。 本部分与GB/Z 5169.15-2001相比主要变化如下：
a) 燃气甲烷的纯度由“……不低于99%”改为“……不低于98%”（本部分4.2.8）；
b) 方法A增加了实验室通风柜/试验箱的内容（本部分4.2.9）；
c) “……铜块由100℃±2℃加热到700℃±3℃……”改为“……铜块由100℃±5℃加热到700℃±3℃……”（本部分全部）；
d) 撤销了关于“方法B”的内容（本部分第5章）；
e) 增加了可以使用甲烷或丙烷的方法C（本部分第6章）；
f) 撤销了关于“试验方法B装置”的内容（本部分附录B）；
g) 增加了关于“试验方法C装置”的内容（本部分附录C）。
