Test Method for Dielectric Strength and Voltage Withstand of Insulating Adhesive Tape at Power Frequency
1 Scope
This document specifies the test method for determining the dielectric strength and voltage withstand of insulating adhesive tape at power frequency.
This document applies to the measurement and evaluation of dielectric strength and voltage withstand of insulating adhesive tape.
2 Normative References
The following referenced documents contain provisions which, through citation in the text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and Definitions
Terms and definitions established in GB/T 22396 and the following apply to this document.
3.1
Insulating Adhesive Tape
Pressure-sensitive tape used in electrical applications with excellent insulation properties to prevent leakage.
3.2
Power Frequency
The rated frequency adopted by power system generation, transmission, substation, and distribution equipment, as well as industrial and household electrical equipment.
Note 1: Unit is hertz (Hz).
Note 2: The standard frequency for China's power industry is 50 Hz, while some countries (e.g., the United States) use 60 Hz.
3.3
Breakdown
A phenomenon where the insulating adhesive tape undergoes intense discharge or becomes conductive under an electric field, resulting in damage and perforation.
3.4
Breakdown Voltage
The voltage at which breakdown occurs when a continuous or stepwise increasing voltage is applied along the thickness direction of the insulating adhesive tape under specified conditions.
Note: Unit is volt (V).
[Source: GB/T 22396—2008, 8.21, modified]
3.5
Dielectric Strength (Electric Strength)
The ratio of the breakdown voltage of the insulating adhesive tape to its thickness.
Note: Unit is volt per meter (V/m).
[Source: GB/T 22396—2008, 8.22, modified]
3.6
Voltage Withstand (Voltage Resistant)
The voltage value that the insulating adhesive tape can withstand without breakdown for a specified time.
Note: Unit is volt (V).
[Source: GB/T 22396—2008, 8.20, modified]
3.7
Flashover
Abnormal direct discharge between high-voltage and low-voltage electrodes.
4 Principle
The test applies power frequency voltage to the insulating adhesive tape specimen using different voltage ramp methods until breakdown occurs. The breakdown voltage is measured, and the dielectric strength at power frequency is obtained by dividing the breakdown voltage by the specimen thickness.
The voltage is rapidly increased to a specified value and maintained for a period. If the specimen does not breakdown, this voltage value is recorded as the voltage withstand of the insulating adhesive tape.
