本标准1987年首次发布，2001年第一次修订。
本标准与日本标准JIS R 1535-1991（1998）《化学工业用耐酸瓷砖》的一致性程度为非等效。
本标准代替GB/T 8488-2001《耐酸砖》。
本标准规定了耐酸砖的术语和定义、分类和标记、技术要求、试验方法、检验规则、标志、包装、运输和贮存。
本标准适用于耐腐蚀内衬及地面所用的耐酸砖板。其他异型产品可参照本标准。
本标准对GB/T 8488-2001内容作了如下修订：
——对砖的规格形状作了增补，平板型砖补充了200mm×200mm和300mm×300mm两种规格。
