本标准代替GB/T 9640-1988 《软质泡沫聚合材料加速老化试验方法》。
本标准规定了在实验室内模拟软质和硬质泡沫聚合材料氧化或因潮湿引起的水解等自然老化效果的试验方法。有关老化影响通过测量老化前后相关物理、力学性能来表征。
本标准适用于开孔乳胶，开孔聚氨酯泡沫塑料，闭孔聚氨酯泡沫塑料，闭孔聚烯烃泡沫塑料，其他材料的试验条件需要时另作补充。
本标准与GB/T 9640-1988 相比主要变化如下：
———本标准标题增加了“和硬质”，在第1章范围中同时增加了“硬质泡沫聚合材料”，并同时适用与“闭孔聚氨酯泡沫塑料、闭孔聚烯烃泡沫塑料”；
———第2章“规范性引用文件”中状态调节环境标准由引用GB 2918改为直接引用ISO 741：1995；
———增加了第3章“仪器”。
