1 Scope This standard specifies the prevention and control measures and personal protective equipment for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogen as well as assessment, prevention, follow-up visit requirements and the like after occupational exposure. This standard is applicable to medical and health institutions and other employing organizations subjected to occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogen. 2 Normative References The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this standard, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated references, subsequent amendments (excluding corrigendum contents) to, or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, all parties coming to an agreement according to this standard are encouraged to study whether the latest editions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition referred to apply. GBZ 158 Warning Signs for Occupational Hazards in the Workplace 3 Terms and Definitions For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 bloodborne pathogen the causative bacteria such as Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) that exist in blood and some body fluids and can cause human disease 3.2 occupational exposure the state of workers exposed to the blood containing bloodborne pathogen or other potentially infectious material via eyes, mouth, nose and other mucosae, damaged skin or parenteral exposure when engaging in occupational activities 3.3 parenteral exposure the state of workers exposed to bloodborne pathogen through the skin or mucosae barrier penetrated by ways of needlestick, bite, scratch and cut, etc. when engaging in occupational activities 3.4 contamination the state of existing blood containing bloodborne pathogen or other potentially infectious material in operating environment, object or on its surface 3.5 regulated medical waste the waste with direct or indirect infectivity, toxicity and other hazards that is produced by medical and health institutions in medical treatment, prevention, health care and other medical treatment and health care related activities. In this standard, regulated medical waste includes liquid blood, semi-liquid blood and other potentially infectious material; the blood or other potentially contaminating substances released during disposal of liquid or semi-liquid waste after compression; the blood or other potentially contaminating substances released during disposal of solid waste after compression; contaminated sharps, pathological and microbial wastes containing blood or other potentially infectious material 3.6 contaminated laundry
