NY/T 1538-2007 Quick test method for determination of fineness of ramie fiber
1 Scope
This standard specifies the test method for directly determining the fiber diameter of ramie (degummed ramie and combing fibers) by using a fiber diameter analyzer, and indirectly obtaining the decitex count and metric number of such a fiber.
This standard is applicable to the determination of fineness of ramie fiber.
2 Normative references
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated references, subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) to, or revisions, of any of these publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document applies.

GB/T 5884 Count testing of ramie fiber
GB 8170 Rules for rounding off of numerical values
3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
degummed ramie
ramie fiber obtained after degumming treatment of raw ramie
3.2
combing fiber
fiber sliver obtained after combing of degummed ramie
3.3
fiber fineness
thickness of fibers, expressed by the indicators such as diameter, mass per unit length or length per unit mass
3.4
fiber diameter
width of the cross-section of a fiber cell, in μm
3.5
metric number
unit of fiber or yarn count, expressed as the length in meters per gram of mass
3.6
tex count
unit of linear density, expressed as the mass in grams per kilometer of yarn or fiber, with decitex count referring to the mass in grams per 10,000m of fiber or yarn
3.7
conditioning treatment in advance
treatment to ensure that fibers reach hygroscopic equilibrium during conditioning, that is, placing fibers in an atmosphere with a relative humidity of 10%~25% and a temperature of 45℃~50℃ until the fiber moisture regain falls below the conventional moisture regain
4 Principle
Through microscopic magnification and imaging, the fiber's optical image is converted into image signal, which is then converted into digital information to extract the characteristic value of fiber diameter. Based on diameter values, corresponding decitex counts and metric numbers may be obtained by referencing Annex A.
