1 Scope This specification specifies the material selection and design for steel column (hereinafter referred to as "column") in the petrochemical engineering as well as the design requirements for manufacture, inspection and acceptance. This specification is applicable to the design for the skirt-supported column, whose design pressure is not greater than 35MPa, height is higher than 10m and height-diameter ratio is greater than 5. Note: The column diameter refers to the nominal diameter of the column; as for the unequal-diameter column, its diameter shall be the weighted mean value, see Formula (1). (1) Where, D——the diameter of column body; H——the height of column; D1, D2…Di——the nominal diameter of each section in the column body; h1, h2…hi——the height of each section in the column body. This specification is not applicable to the design for the following columns: a) Column with drafting device; b) Nonmetallic lined column; c) Row column and column group integrated by operation platform; d) Column with jacket. 2 Normative References The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this specification.
