GB 146 Gauge for standard gauge railways consists of two parts: ——Part 1: Rolling stock gauge ——Part 2: Structure gauge This is Part 1 of GB 146. This part is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This standard replaces GB 146.1-1983 Rolling stock gauge for standard gauge railways and the following main technical changes have been made with respect to GB 146.1-1983: ——the clause“Normative references”is added (see Clause 2); ——the definition of rolling stock gauge is modified (see 3.1 hereof, and Clause 2 of 1983 edition); ——the definition of basic car is added (see 3.2); ——the requirements for the maximum allowable width of rolling stock are modified (see Clause 6 hereof; and Clause 6 of 1983 edition); ——the requirements that the outline of rolling stock shall allow safe operating in design are added (see 6.4). ——the gauge outline of passenger-dedicated EMU is added (see Figure 1); ——the nominal width 350 mm~1 250 mm of rail surface of upper gauge of rolling stock is modified (see Figure 1 hereof, and Figure 1 of 1983 edition); ——the lower gauge of rolling stock is modified (see Figures 2 and 3 hereof, and Figure 2 of 1983 edition); This part is under the jurisdiction of the National Railway Administration of the People's Republic of China. The previous editions of this part are as follow: ——GB 146-1959, GB 146.1-1983. Gauge for standard gauge railways Part 1: Rolling stock gauge 1 Scope This part of GB 146 specifies the 1435 mm gauge for standard gauge railways. This part is applicable to the gauge for standard gauge railways. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies. GB 146.2-2020 Gauge for standard gauge railways - Part 2: Structure gauge 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 rolling stock gauge a limit cross-sectional profile perpendicular to the centerline of the line, which limits the overall dimension of rolling stock 3.2 basic car nominal vehicle with a given body length and bogie center distance used in determining the maximum width reduction of rolling stock 4 General 4.1 The center line of gauge is a perpendicular line which passes through the center of straight line. The horizontal dimension of rolling stock starts from its center line and expressed as half width of gauge. The vertical dimension starts from the rail surface. 4.2 Rolling stock gauge includes upper gauge and lower gauge. The part above 350 mm from the rail surface is upper gauge, and gauge-1A is the basic outline of the upper gauge of rolling stock, as shown in Figure 1. The part above 350 mm or less from the rail surface is upper gauge, and gauge-1B and gauge-1C are the basic outlines of the lower gauge of rolling stock, see Figure 2 for gauge-1B and Figure 3 for gauge-1C. 4.3 No matter the rolling stock is empty or heavy, or is a new one with the maximum standard tolerance or an old one with the maximum standard tolerance and wear limit, when parked on straight line without lateral inclination or offset, the part(s) intend to protrude shall retract. Except the pantograph raised, other parts shall be within the rolling stock gauge. 4.4 In the design and manufacture of rolling stock, both the basic dimension and the tolerance dimension shall not exceed the limit cross-sectional contour line specified by the gauge. 5 Vertical dimension of rolling stock gauge 5.1 The maximum dimension of the upper part of new (unused after production) rolling stock in the vertical plane at no load may be designed and manufactured according to the maximum dimension of gauge-1A. 5.2 The design and manufacture vertical dimension of the lower part of new rolling stock shall not be less than the vertical dimension specified by gauge-1B or gauge-1C after taking into account the static deflection of spring under static load (or under servicing condition) and the maximum wear. 5.3 For trucks passing through automatic and mechanized hump retarders, the design and manufacture vertical dimension of the lower part shall not be less than the vertical dimension specified by the lower gauge-2 when the retarder is in braking or working position after taking into account the static deflection of spring and the maximum wear. 5.4 For shunting locomotives passing through automatic and mechanized hump retarders, the design and manufacture vertical dimension of the lower part shall not be less than the vertical dimension specified by the lower gauge-3 of shunting locomotive when the retarder is in the relief position after taking into account the static deflection of spring and the maximum wear. 5.5 When determining the design and manufacture vertical dimension of the lower part of a new vehicle according to 5.2 ~ 5.4, it is not necessary to take into account the spring dynamic deflection at dynamic load. 6 Maximum allowable width of rolling stock 6.1 When determining the maximum allowable width of rolling stock, the transverse offset (limit value) caused by the maximum wear of running parts when entering the curve is not considered. 6.2 For rolling stock entering the standard gauge railway line meeting GB 146.2-2020, the calculated length of the vehicle body shall be 26m, the center distance of bogie shall be 18m, and the maximum allowable width shall be 3400 mm. On the calculated curve with a curve radius of 300 m, the maximum offset shall be 135 mm in the middle and 147 mm at the end. The design of rolling stock shall meet the following requirements: a) when the vehicle body length and bogie center distance are not larger than the corresponding dimension of the vehicle calculated and conform to the ratio of the body length and bogie center distance of the vehicle calculated, it is not necessary to reduce its maximum allowable width (3400 mm). b) When the vehicle body length or bogie center distance does not meet the requirements of 6.2a) (larger than the corresponding dimension of the vehicle calculated or not larger than but not in conformity with the ratio of the car body length to the bogie center distance of the vehicle calculated), the maximum allowable width shall be reduced accordingly and calculated according to the following method. Special rolling stock shall be calculated by making reference to this method.
